Words

The kids will be home in a few, so I have time for a quick post to show off one of the projects I've managed to finish while they've been away. It's been nice with some freedom, but it will be good to have them back, the house has been so quiet! I got the idea for the seagull cushion when I was making sea related stuff for the exhibition. I love to use writing in my work, but I always struggle with what language to use when my mother tongue is Swedish, but I also use Finnish and English daily and sell my products internationally. This very simple way of incorporating all of "my languages" feels very good, like a way of representing me (like I would have written while I was still trying to write my PhD thesis...). So this might just be the beginning of a word (swe: ord fin: sana) series.

I will try hard to up-date the shop on a regular basis so please check back for new additions. My next project will be to make some art quilts.

I have no idea why blogger makes my text look like this in every second post...

Love your sea-gull cushion. Had no idea (must have missed it..) that you’re Swedish too! Isn’t it wonderful to speak so many languages?
I always adore the handwriting in your work!

Lovely! I really like your birds. They are a symbol for freedom of thought for me. This is a good way for me to extend my finnish knowledge too!

So far I know (sorry if I have misspelled it): "rautakankki", "hirvenkono", "mansikka", "makkara" and "majto". An odd collection, ey?? But at least I know that I will be able to survive if ever getting stuck in finland. An odd diet consisting of "strawberrys, sausage and milk".

Tosi kiva tyyny:o)
Ja hieno idea lisätä tekstejä eri kielillä.
Minä käytin nyt tätä toista kotimaista, kun sitä parhaiten taidan...

That is great that you can incorporate all three of your languages into your art. You are one linguistically and creatively talented woman! Amazing, really :o) I really really want to learn better Swedish, and I always have admired people who have it down. Have fun with the kids!

Your seagull cushion is gorgeous! I particularly love seagulls - which is a good thing as I live fairly close to the sea!

I also really love the way you use words in your work - I think it is probably the thing that makes your creations so unique! I can't wait to see your new "word" series!

lovely.. beautiful little post.. I love the idea of using diffrent languages in your craft... I'm afraid all I know is American English, English English (oh boy is there a diffrence sometimes).. a bit of spanish, from growing up in California... and a few bits of French and Italian... I wish I had more time to learn more languages..

though I must say that cake transcends all language barriers.. and I make a damn fine cake. ;o)

Isn't it nice when objects you make express something so well? I think the words and seagulls together are very nice. Thanks for the look and explanation.
